Portrait Painting

So I took a portrait painting class this semester, thought I would share with you guys some of the things I've done in that class.  A majority of the time we spent doing copies of master paintings (a lot of Sargents)

Painting all day.

So I just got home from painting since yesterday morning.  Instead of just the one photo I took a compilation of photos showcasing the result of my progress.  I hope to get to the studio later this weekend to work more on this and my portrait final.  Feel free to leave any comments.

Maps on the wall

So this started from wanting to paint a figure in Photoshop.  Decided it needed to be somewhere too.. had a blast painting the maps on the walls.  I'm really excited about painting like this.  I want to try and involve more narrative in my next digital piece.  Feedback is welcome.

a WIP

So another Friday has arrived.  I spent today working on getting the light source that is emanating from the structure on the right to appear on the figure. The structure on that right is missing midtones.. I'll try and get to that tomorrow.  I do regret not taking a photo of it under the natural sky light in the figure drawing room.  Cheers.

Senior studio WIP

This is my second work in progress post for one of my senior studio pieces.  I'm working on the figure using an alla prima technique.  I fleshed in the figure mostly last Friday and spent a good deal of time today working on the background and the concrete structure on the right.  More to come this week.  Cheers!

a digital landscape

Landscape practice in photoshop.   I focused on leaving some areas smooth or letting the texture of the brush marks show in others.  Anyways, it was a lot of fun to do this.

Late Night Portrait..

So.. had portrait painting for 6 hours today and late tonight decided to do a digital portrait of my sister who I was video chatting with.

I think it came out pretty well.. it's the second portraitish painting I've done digitally.. so yippee.. I'll keep messing around with photoshop. Defiantly want to keep experimenting with this.

Cheers!

Fall 10' So far.

This is what my current studio looks like from one angle.  I've started working on my first large painting.  It is 8ft x 32in on stretched canvas.

I had started this year off doing studies.  Some can be found in the larger pic above.  I had an understanding that I wanted to focus on the urban night landscape.  My landscape painting class with Marcus Greene showed me that I enjoyed the subtle use of different greys, especially the chromatic ones are fun to use.  I have been studying the portrait with Cameron Bennett this year so I also want to include the figure and portrait which have been important to me for a while.  With these elements I hope to implement a sense of drama and conflict into the night-scape.

Fall 09'/Spring 10'

This is a small collection of some of the work I did during my Junior year in school.  The top represents the newest work.
I want to use these as some sort of way to introduce myself to whoever might happen upon this blog.  I'll be updating it with newer works and studies shortly.
